video games - Paris Games Week

On the occasion of Paris Games Week, which takes place from November 2 to 6, 2022, SELL and Médiamétrie unveil their annual study on the French and video games. We reveal some key figures from this survey.

7 out of 10 French people play video games at least occasionally, i.e. more than 37 million people. According the study of the Syndicate of Leisure Software Publishers (SELL) conducted by Médiamétrie, three quarters of them play at least once a week. Aged 39 on average, more than half of them prefer consoles (TV or laptop) to have fun with their favorite video game.
The survey also reveals that more than 18 million women gamble and that the majority of them play occasionally. We also talk about casual gaming (general public games on phone or tablet, editor’s note).

44% of seniors play video games

If these figures no longer surprise anyone, the SELL study shows that the practice of video game has never been so popular. Having become an intergenerational leisure activity, Gaming attracts more and more seniors and creates vocations ensuring a bright future for the sector.

  • 80% of French people consider video games to be an innovative sector
  • 49% of video game players are women
  • 44% of seniors play video games
  • 64% of parents say they play with their children occasionally
  • 16% of Internet users aged 10 and over have already considered working in a profession in the video game industry
