Bringing together architecture, design and contemporary art is Franklin Azzi's ambition. The architect, who founded his agency in 2006, was named designer of the year at the Salon Maison & Objet from September 2020. From the development of the banks of the Seine to the transformation of the Montparnasse tower with the Collectif Nouvelle AOM, through the renovation of the premises that house the Maison Plisson 2 or the modernization of the Tour d'Argent... Franklin azzi is a real jack-of-all-trades. Today, he shares his favorites with us.

An album to listen to on repeat

“Without hesitation, Prince with his title Purple Rain if you want to make me dance! I like this alliance of funk, pop and rock."

A photographer to know

"Bernd and Hilla Becher: I admire this German photographer couple for their frontal photographs of industrial installations."

An unforgettable dance performance

« The Horde because they symbolize the spirit of the collective, something extensible that also welcomes other artists according to the projects. I like their creation, the transversality between music, dance and theater that they operate.

A film to watch without moderation

"I have a penchant for futuristic cinema. I am very close to the worlds ofOrange Mechanique by Stanley Kubrick and Blade Runner by Ridley Scott (the "final cut" version). But I also like the great classics: It's a Wonderful Life by Frank Capra. »

A contemporary work to share

“Olafur Eliasson’s work speaks to me because he uses scientific principles to explore our relationship to time and space. Also Mathias Kiss: he blurs the lines between art and craft and questions the functions of objects. And some young talents that I appreciate: Victoire Thierrée, Olivia Bloch Lainé, the None Futbol Club collective…”

A bedside book

« The endless world by Jean-Marc Jancovici with Christophe Blain. Yes, everyone has read it! But when the world of comics meets an eminent specialist in climate issues, you can't miss it!

A fetish object

"At the agency, I like to be surrounded by my turntables, a drum kit - my team teases me because I don't play! - and a punching bag that must be lying around in the basement. Not to mention my Faber-Castell pencils, my Charlotte Perriand lamp and my Castiglioni spiral ashtray."

A punch series

« Black Mirror : each episode has its own reality, the series is fascinating because everyone can identify with most of the situations, but worrying because technology is so hostile to it. A good critique of our society with a current perspective. I'm also watching Severance, the very recent series whose clinical aesthetic is perfectly mastered and brilliant!

A landmark exhibition

« “Art and Programming” directed by Domitille d'Orgeval and Denis Kilian at the Galerie Denise René: twenty artists interested in the years 1950-1960 by the theory of information, cybernetics and who thus participated in the emergence of digital art (Vasarely, Vera Molnar, Le Parc, Gianni Colombo…). It's until May 12, go ahead! »

A beautiful book to share

"At home I have a copy of Andreas Gursky's magnificent book, Montparnasse. A silver-printed box set dedicated to Andreas Gursky's monumental photograph of the 400-metre-long Montparnasse apartment building by architect Jean Dubuisson."

An essential table

“I am of Lebanese origin so I can only recommend Twalet, Kamal Mouzawak's restaurant which has just opened a stone's throw from République in Paris”
