This summer, Inès Longevial ​​exhibited her works for the first time in a museum, during a "solo show" in Agen where she was born, before flying to New York for an exhibition at the Van de Weghe gallery in from November. Intensely colored figurative paintings that make her one of the most viewed French painters, in particular thanks to her Instagram account with 347 subscribers. On the eve of the annual high mass of contemporary art in Paris, we asked her about her current inspirations.

A neighborhood to get lost in

“Chinatown in New York, a bit cliché perhaps and yet quite timeless, so much life, colors and intriguing products. The view of the characteristic buildings of New York is breathtaking. I retain surprising color ranges, reds mixed with pinks, then greens, and a dotted shades of browns and beiges on the walk. »

A book to devour

“ A Possible Life by Line Papin. We met through our voices this summer on France Culture in the program “La grande Table,” presented by Sébastien Thème. I was struck by the precision of her words as well as her vibrant and communicative energy. I read her latest book this summer and I was deeply moved by this essay, which possesses a timeless power.”

A film to discover

" The Pleasure of Being Robbed by Joshua Safdie. I saw this film when it was released in 2008. This film left an indelible mark on me. I remember the colors, but also and especially the atmosphere of a ghostly and mysterious New York that made me want to discover the world."

An inspiring series character

“I was very recently struck by Carmen Berzatto, played by Jeremy Allen White, in The Bear . I loved his role as a young, up-and-coming chef returning to his hometown of Chicago to take over his brother's restaurant after his suicide. In this tragic situation, far from his world, Carmy is fire and ice. It's very inspiring and touching to see this character persevere despite the weight that constantly crushes him.”

A favorite perfume

“That of a big city awakening, the smell of shaving foam mixed with that of coffee floats in the air, often accompanied by a gentle breeze that carries this comforting smell from one nose to another. »

An iconic recipe

“I have so many! It is very difficult to make the choice that would correspond to me the most. These are things that move over the years, that mark the times and the pages turned.
Without thinking too much, I think of my mother's recipe for peppers in oil and garlic. Very easy and foolproof but absolutely delicious. Red peppers simply emptied of their seeds in the oven at 220 degrees until obtaining a gently caramelized smell, peeled once cooled, cut into thin strips, then drizzled with olive oil and garlic. Keep in the fridge for an hour before serving. »
