Tandem, the studio that wants to "re-enchant the cinema experience"
Member of La French Touch, Tandem is a young film distribution and production studio, founded by Mathieu Robinet in 2020 to shake up the world of cinema.
“ The magic of cinema is a collective experience ,” the founder of Tandem points out from the outset. While cinemas are suffering from dwindling audiences after months of closure, compounded by the recent introduction of health passes, Mathieu Robinet remains optimistic. “ Working in the film industry is, for me, a way to share knowledge and expertise, and to enrich people emotionally. It’s a different relationship with the world around us, and I find something quite galvanizing about that .” It was this vision of cinema that led him to launch Tandem in October 2020, a new film distribution and production company.
Eventise outings
« The world is changing and everything accelerates with the context, the film industry must adapt », Adds the manager. To cope with this acceleration, Mathieu Robinet has chosen to defend committed films and to surround himself with directors who do not hesitate to take risks. But what sets Tandem apart from other studios is its desire to reinvent the experience around a film. " It begins before the screening and continues after. Our idea is to question the way films are released in theaters, to re-enchant the cinema experience and make the releases more eventful. "He says.
A choice that pays off since Sound of metal , Tandem's first film directed by Darius Marder, was nominated for the 2021 Oscars. Truffle hunter, directed by Gregory Kershaw and Michael Dweck was in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival 2020. " It's encouraging for the future! », Enthuses the founder.
An ambassador of La French Touch
Passionate about his craft, Mathieu Robinet also emphasizes the emancipatory power of cinema : “ Cinema allowed me to emancipate myself, to assert myself; that’s the power of culture, and that’s what’s magical about it. ” This culture is embodied in the French Touch movement, of which Mathieu Robinet is an ambassador. “ This movement is strongly linked to the French cultural exception. It’s there to preserve it, renew it, and evolve it to adapt it to the world we live in, a faster, more disrupted world ,” he explains before concluding, “ This French Touch represents elegance and French know-how; we’re proud to have this unconventional side, envied throughout the world .”
