Pascal Breton on the Waft stage

Pascal Breton, CEO of Federation Entertainment, an independent production and distribution studio dedicated to French and international premium series, was on the WAFT stage to share his vision for the future of the European audiovisual sector.

“The Bureau of Legends”, “In Therapy”, “Around the World in 80 Days”. Behind these successful series hide creators, artists, technicians but also a man: Pascal Breton. This ambassador of La French Touch is a serial entrepreneur in the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) community. After a first experience with Marathon Media Groupe, renamed Zodiak Kids after its acquisition by Zodiak Media in 2007, the entrepreneur did it again in 2013 with Federation Entertainment. In 8 years of existence, this European flagship has already produced and distributed more than a hundred series. " We must look to the future rather than protect our small advantages acquired in the past and invest sustainably in the sector so that the audiovisual European remains in control of its content ". This is the main message he shared during the event We Are French Touch.
Here are the three takeaways from his speech.

Funding for creation by platforms

« We have just experienced a historic event that is beyond us. France, once again, is the precursor of a fundamental movement. Europe has adopted a directive transposed into French law, which means that 20% of the turnover of all platforms must be invested in content – films and series – produced by French producers. This represents 1 billion euros of additional investment in the sector from 2025, i.e. a doubling of the sector, but also fabulous potential for jobs and the creation of studios. »

The disintermediation of audiovisual content

« With blockchain, NFTs, metaverses, and many other things we don't know yet, the end of intermediaries will transform the model, much like in music where, more and more, creators are directly finding their monetization on platforms while keeping most of the value ».

Bringing together the various CCI players

« All creators and cultural sectors will come together. We are going to invest in music, we are also working on the publishing side since the essence of a series or a film is its author. We are going to invest in studios, try to create an audiovisual hub in the center of Paris to offer all creators and authors a place to meet, work, and specialize in "co-working" where showrunners from all over the world will come to share their experience. »
